One hundred famous mountains in Japan Daibosatsu-rei
Do you like mountain climbing?
Mount Daibosatsu in Yamanashi Prefecture is close enough to be visited from Tokyo on a day trip, but it is also such a magnificent mountain that it has been selected as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan.
With a wide variety of routes for everyone from families to experienced climbers, the mountain is visited by many hikers throughout the year.

What is the climbing route to Mt. Daibosatsu?
From the ridge of the hiking trail, you can see Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, and Mount Kitadake in the Southern Alps (the second highest mountain in Japan), making for a spectacular view.

The altitude is 2,056m, but the route is well maintained and there are several mountain huts along the way.
Numerous alpine plants can be seen on the mountainside, and as mentioned above, a magnificent ridgeline with a great view awaits you.

How do you get to Daibosatsu-rei?
There are two trailheads at Daibosatsu Pass: the “Kamihigawa Pass Trailhead,” which is popular with beginners, and the “Daibosatsu Pass Trailhead,” which is the trailhead for those who are confident in their physical strength. Both trailheads are easily accessible, as there are buses that run from the train station to the trailheads.
You can go there by car, but I took the train and bus from Tokyo. Please see below for how to get there by train and bus.
To get to the “Kamihikawa Pass Trailhead”, take the “Daibosatsu Kamihikawa Pass Line” operated by Sakaewa Kotsu Co., Ltd. from Kai Yamato Station on the JR Chuo Line. There are three buses on weekdays and five on weekends and holidays, and it takes about 40 minutes to get to the trailhead one way. The fare is 1,020 yen one way.
There is a parking lot at the Kamihikawa Pass trailhead that can accommodate more than 300 cars, so you can also get to the trailhead by car.
To get to the “Daibosatsu Pass Trailhead”, take the Koshu City Bus “Daibosatsu Pass Trailhead Line” or “Daibosatsu no Yu Line via Nihongi” from Shioyama Station on the JR Chuo Line. The “Daibosatsu Pass Trailhead Line” operates five times on weekdays (six times on weekdays from the Daibosatsu Pass Trailhead to the south exit of Shioyama Station) and seven times on weekends and holidays, and it takes about 30 minutes to get to the trailhead one way. The “Daibosatsu-no-Yu Line via Nihongi” operates four times a day and takes you to the trailhead in about 25 minutes one way.
Quoted from Koshu City Portal Site
The fare for both routes is 300 yen per ride, regardless of distance.
I got off at Kai Yamato Station and chose the route that took me to the summit via Kamihikawa Pass.
Please note that there are few buses running from Kai Yamato Station to the trailhead.

Daibosatsu-rei is one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. The views from the hiking trails are amazing. You can get there by train and bus from Tokyo, so please give it a try.
We recommend taking the express train back to Tokyo and enjoying a local drink before heading back. It will help you recover from the fatigue of your climb.
