Hello! When you think of Japan, you think of rice and hot springs. Tokyo is too urban and there are public baths but no hot springs. There are no rice fields anywhere.
If you’ve come all the way to Japan and want to eat some delicious rice and vegetables, and maybe even enjoy a hot spring, then we recommend “Teganuma”!

What is the agricultural resort “Teganuma”?
Where is Lake Teganuma?
Do you know about Lake Teganuma? Most people don’t know about it, and that’s no surprise. Lake Teganuma is a lake between Kashiwa City and Abiko City in Chiba Prefecture, and is said to be the closest natural lake to Tokyo! (Really?)
How do I get to Lake Teganuma?
The closest station is Kita-Kashiwa Station on the JR Joban Line. If you walk from Kita-Kashiwa Station towards Kita-Kashiwa Furusato Park, you will reach Lake Teganuma!
However, Lake Teganuma is quite large (it is about 20km around, and people run half marathons there), so I recommend going by car! If you go by car, it is convenient to park at the parking lot of “Roadside Station Shounan” or “Water Hall” in the middle of Lake Teganuma!
Alternatively, you can take a bus from Abiko Station. In that case, please take the bus bound for Mizu no Yakata or Shonan Roadside Station.
In addition, Kitakashiwa Furusato Park also has a bicycle rental service, so if you come by train, we recommend renting a bicycle and going around the shores of Lake Teganuma! There is a cycling course, which is very pleasant.

What’s in Lake Teganuma?
Roadside Station “Shonan”
Roadside Station Shonan, which stands along Lake Teganuma and Chiba Prefectural Route 8, serves as the entrance gate to Lake Teganuma and was renovated and reopened in 2021.

The parking lot is very spacious and can accommodate about 400 cars. Inside the store, fresh vegetables and souvenirs from the surrounding area are lined up.

On sunny days, events are held under the large roof, so if you visit Teganuma, be sure to check out Shonan Roadside Station!

Teganuma Fishing Center
At the eastern end of Lake Teganuma, downstream, is the Teganuma Fishing Center. It is commonly known as “Okutega.”
As the name Fishing Center suggests, you can experience fishing in the fishing pond.

There is also a cafe called Numa Cafe in the facility where you can enjoy delicious food. The view of Lake Teganuma from the cafe is also beautiful.

There is an agricultural management bridge near the facility, and the sunset you can see from there is spectacular! On clear days, you can even see Mt. Fuji in the distance.

During the summer festival, it stays open until late. You have to drive to get there, but if you come to Lake Teganuma, be sure to check it out at least once!

Teganuma Onsen “Manten no Yu”

I’m tired, so I’m here! Relax in the hot springs at the shores of Lake Teganuma. The best hot springs are waiting for you. On your way back, we recommend stopping by the farm shop next door and the pear shop next door, “Minowaen.”

Tega-no-Oka Park, where camping is also available!

Chiba Prefectural Tega-no-Oka Park, located in the mountains along the shores of Lake Teganuma, is another excellent facility. This is a single mountain that has been turned into a park, with a jabu-jabu pond and athletic facilities that are great for children to play in!

There are also some very large dinosaurs! Please try to find dinosaurs hiding in the mountains of Teganuma!

And then again, camping, life is camping! There are other campgrounds around Teganuma, but Tega-no-Oka Park has a privately owned RECAMP that sells all sorts of things and is excellent at managing it. The location is great, so if you like camping, you should definitely enjoy camping by the lake at Teganuma!

The best rural scenery, vast rice fields
And of course, when you think of Teganuma, you think of the vast rice fields!

It’s a place that could be called the original Japanese landscape. The lush green rice fields are especially beautiful in the summer, so be sure to check it out while you’re out for a drive!

Let’s stop by Lake Teganuma before going to Narita!
We only introduced a small part of Lake Teganuma, but were you able to get a sense of its charm? There are many more activities to do around Lake Teganuma, such as campsites, strawberry picking experiences, and large parks! We hope to introduce them to you on another occasion.
It’s about an hour’s drive from Tokyo. Please come and visit Lake Teganuma in Chiba Prefecture, where you can enjoy traditional Japanese scenery! It’s closer than going to Narita Airport!
fanfan japan!!
